MARION RAVENWOOD
First seen trouncing a Nepalese heavy in a drinking competition in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Karen Allen’s hard-as-nails barmaid rekindles her youthful romance with Jones before disappearing from the franchise. Her forthcoming reappearance in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, in which she has relocated to New York, has led some to believe that she may have something important to tell our hero.
WILHELMINA “WILLIE” SCOTT
While Indiana Jones got his first name from George Lucas’s dog, the high-maintainence cabaret singer in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was named after Steven Spielberg’s mutt. Played by Kate Capshaw, Scott first meets Jones at a Shanghai nightclub (which Lucas fans will recall was called Obi Wan) and spends most of the film complaining, screaming and pretending not to like him. He ultimately ensnares her with a nifty flick of his whip. Capshaw’s director used more conventional methods of capture – she became Mrs Steven Spielberg in 1991 and the couple have five children.
DR ELSA SCHNEIDER
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Alison Doody’s Austrian academic pulls off the impressive trick of bedding both Jones and his father, before double-crossing both men to aid the Nazis in their quest for the Holy Grail. But the ruthless blonde ice queen gets her comeuppance, falling into an abyss as she tries to retrieve the Grail.
IRINA SPALKO
The Soviets take over from the Nazis as the villains of the piece in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Cate Blanchett’s Spalko looks set to be one of the film’s most memorable baddies. Jones is rumoured to enjoy one of his infamous love-hate tristes with the dastardly Russian agent, whose stern demeanour has reminded some of a sexed-up version of Rosa Klebb, the formidable female spy in From Russia with Love.
