A metropolitan loser escapes white-collar drudgery when a mystery vamp and her philosophising boss help him develop an undiscovered talent for bending time, wearing leather and firing guns in slow motion.
Hmm. It seems likely that the Nightwatch director Bekmambetov and Mark Millar, on whose comic books he based his film, might have cursory knowledge of a certain sci-fi trilogy starring Keanu Reeves. Some of the stunts – particularly the car chases – are breathtaking, but this kind of preposterous sci-fi must have the outlandish fizz of novelty to really work. If not, it just looks like a bank-breaking parody. McAvoy made his name in Shameless, but none of the Gallaghers’ acts of larceny were this brazen.
