Oscar-winning director meets the world's oldest touring rock band and produces turgid home movie. What might have worked on the big screen through sheer swooping spectacle fails on the small as the Stones attract admiration less for their musicianship than for still being able to stand up. Mick Jagger still has all the energy of a man a third his age, but it comes to something when Keith Richards has to be bailed out by Ronnie Wood when it comes to getting through to the end of a song. Keef still has all the riffs at his fingers, but spends most of the time changing guitars. If you want to see the Stones on film go back to Gimme Shelter, when they were still a band and not a money-making machine.
