Gomorrah
"Matteo Garrone’s startling film, Gomorrah, about the criminal underworld
in Naples, is one of these rare movies that can alter our perception of life"
- James Christopher
The
Dark Knight
"Heath Ledger’s posthumous Oscar looks in the bag. The film is bleak and
brilliant. Batman is Hamlet and Ledger is a sensation as the Joker. The late
legend doesn’t just steal the film, he murders it in style" -
James Christopher
Man
On Wire
"The American director James Marsh has created one of the greatest heist
films of all times. Two things make his gripping docudrama so different:
it’s all true, and the only thing stolen is air" - Cosmo
Landesman
There
Will Be Blood
"Paul Thomas Anderson's movie about the scramble for oil is a masterclass
in how the West was truly sold. It's a marvellously entertaining soap: a
sort Dickens does Dallas, without the sex or swimming pools" - James
Christoper
Time
and Winds
"The kind of movie that was invented for the word “ineffable”. It is, at
a guess, about life’s relentless march, about death, rebirth, and the hollow
limits of religion in the face of overwhelming nature. when you’ve got it
you’ve got it for good" - Kevin Maher

Slumdog
Millionaire
"Danny Boyle’s rags-to-riches story about an 18-year-old orphan from the
slums of Bombay makes the heart pound" - James Christopher
Hunger
"Turner prize-winning artist Steve McQueen's savage portrait of hunger
striker Bobby Sands is a chilling drama, a controversial and provocative act
of remembering" - James Christopher
Of
Time and the City
"This rich cinematic memoir of Liverpool from Terence Davies is a British
gem. Elegant and slightly elegiac, this is a film to be cherished" -
Wendy Ide
High
School Musical 3
"The third in a series of frothy, phenomenally popular kids’ films is as
shiny and polished as newly fitted dental veneers and, like most Disney
products, relentlessly family-friendly" - Wendy Ide
Chocolate
"From the director who brought us the stunt-tastic Ong-Bak comes the
story of Zen, an autistic girl who learns martial arts by watching them on
television in another symphony of exquisitely choreographed carnage" -
Wendy Ide

There Will Be Blood is absolute rubbish. Watch the first 5 mins and the last 5 mins and you've seen the whole movie. Gone Baby Gone is the best so far, with Cloverfield, Dark Knight and Iron Man. Juno was witty but it just doesn't give you your money's worth.
Ice, Brighton, UK
cant believe some people are saying 'There Will be blood' is boring, its the best film Ive seen for ages. Brilliantly thought out and superbly acted. Some people just cannot concentrate on a film if there are no car chases and gunfights every 10 minutes :/
Karl, Skem,
There Will Be Blood wasn't the worst movie ever, rather a film that is as shallow as it is boring. Great to look at and (mostly) superbly acted, it dealt with greed (Oilmen, Greedy???? Never!!) and hypocrisy (in religion???? Never!!) at the most superficial of levels. Tedious in the extreme.
Pat, Bungay, UK
That movies are meant to entertain is a given. That 'Ironman' fulfilled that brief most certainly is not.
Hammy and puerile if you ask me, but 'brill' if you ask my 14 year old nephew.
David Park, Ayr,
there will be blood was the worst movie ever. over acted and boring from beginning to end. just another hyped movie. ironman is the best film so far this year. has everything. directors seem to forget movies are made to entertain. there will be blood is just about a man's greed who turns psycho.

What about Wall-e?
Jack, st. louis, usa
What about Son of Rambow? Very funny and clever, with amazing performances from the two boys in the lead roles, and a satisfyingly believable ending. All this and a non-Hollywood production - what more could you want?
Gill, Southampton, England
I wonder if Lars and the Real Girl has come out in UK yet. I just watched it here in New Zealand and I loved it! A delightful film that challenges your thinking and has a beautiful tone throughout.
Sarah, Hamilton, New Zealand
The idea of Cloverfield being in the category of "best" anything is frankly ridiculous. Unless you mean "best portrayal of irritating substanceless yuppies caught up in a film based solely on hype".
