The latest offering from the Clerks director Smith has a sexy premise – if you like that kind of thing – and a couple of stars from the Judd Apatow stable in Rogen and Banks. But like most of Smith’s films it is dragged down by his clumsy direction and relentlessly puerile sense of humour, which, admittedly, is a bit like complaining about the rain in November.

Zack and Miri (Rogen and Banks) are two down-on-their-luck flatmates who decide to become pornographers when they can’t pay their bills. Being young and desperate they don’t muster much in the way of moral qualm – the whole DIY thing looks like fun – but they do worry that they are about to screw up their platonic relationship. The big set-piece, when they finally have sex for the cameras, is handled with nice delicacy, but true to form Smith muffs the fallout. An anticlimax.
