Who are they? A London four-piece, Stricken City make music seem effortless and spontaneous where others get bogged down in trying to find the right jeans, guitar sound or hairstyle. One great single (this summer’s debut, Tak o Tak) would be impressive; a second, the hurtling, hands-in-the-air Lost Art, confirms just how special this band are. Their leggy, slightly loopy singer, Rebekah Raa, once again runs riot over SC’s soundscape of trebly bass, chaotic drums and jangly guitar, on a song that recalls Bow Wow Wow, Talking Heads, the Slits and the Sugarcubes. Through instinct and talent rather than research skills or calculation, SC fashion something fresh and pretty much perfect.
