Still adored across the board because their musical curiosity left several different Clashes to emulate, this recording of West London’s finest supporting The Who in a New York baseball arena captures some of their magic.

The Beatles-influenced Spanish Bombs sounds ever odder as time passes, Clampdown makes protest sound seductively glamorous, while the deft medley of the early rock-rap Magnificent Seven and the reggae favourite Armagideon Time still sounds contemporary. Only the damp, unenthusiastic crowd are disappointing.
