The Routemaster bus, which was withdrawn from most of the capital in 2005 despite being one of its best-known symbols, is to be resurrected with 21st-century credentials. Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, who promised during his election campaign to phase out bendy buses, announced a competition for imaginative ideas for a modern bus – “Club-class on the upper deck, television screens, whatever you like” – with a stipulation to ensure that it strongly resembles the driver-and-conductor Routemaster. There is a £25,000 prize for the winning entry.

Interesting - Leeds introduced FTRs not so long ago - shorter bendy buses but WITH conductors!! Perhaps that's the way to go even if I did love the Routemaster - biggest advantage being you could hop on and off between stops.

I think the mp's are the biggest bunch of hypocrites going,if they didn't insist on having such a ridiculous lifestyle with total disregard for everyone else then we could get down to sorting out the problems in this country of ours!

Good old Boris, what a refreshing change and a ray of sunshine in these troubled times.
If only there were more like him.
