Revo Blok
£200, www.revo.co.uk
WHAT IS IT? An iPod speaker system housed in a wooden cabinet, which according to Scottish company Revo helps it produce a rich, natural sound. It certainly makes it heavy — the Blok sits rock-solid even when belting out at its maximum 20W per channel. There’s a remote control for your iPod and a standard 3.5mm socket for other audio sources. The Blok works best with jazz, blues, classical music and vintage rock. Modern pop and dance music, however, lack punch and definition.
SHOULD I BUY ONE? Do you have a collection of Billie Holiday tracks on your iPod? Are you planning a dinner party? Then you know you want this. Pre-order now for delivery in late October.
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
£tba, www.nokia.co.uk
WHAT IS IT? Nokia’s first touchscreen music mobile phone has broadband-speed 3G, a 3.2Mp camera and 8GB of memory. It’s tied into the Comes with Music service, which for around £130 a year allows unlimited downloads from Nokia’s 2m-track music store. The combination of high-tech hardware and prepaid music may add up to the first true “iPhone-killer”.
SHOULD I BUY ONE? You’ll have to wait until it gets an exclusive UK network partner — possibly Orange.
Pyramat Gamebag 2.1
£99, www.firebox.co.uk
WHAT IS IT? A beanbag for gamers. Embedded in the “arms” are a pair of speakers, while at the back is a 20W, 5.5in powered subwoofer to give you a palpable kick during noisy action games. It’s compatible with any console or gaming system, and the supplied 9ft audio cable should give you enough slack to position your Gamebag anywhere in the room. There is a remote control, too, and a headphone jack.
SHOULD I BUY ONE? For a real marathon, a decent office chair would be kinder to your back.
