Sourav Ganguly, the former India captain, has announced that he will retire from international cricket at the end of the upcoming Test series against Australia.
"This will be my last series," Ganguly, 36 said. "I have told my team mates before I came here. These four test matches are going to be my last."
Ganguly was named in the squad for the first two tests despite being dropped for a premier domestic game, seen as a selection match, following a poor series in Sri Lanka in August. The first test in Bangalore starts on Thursday.
Ganguly has scored 6,888 runs and hit 15 centuries in 109 Tests for India. He led the country as captain in 49 Tests, winning 21 of those.

There is no doubt that Sourav was not the most solid batsmen in the Indian line up but when on song that cover drive sure was pretty to watch. He was also the one that showed his team mates how hard they needed to compete on the world stage. Oz has lost a handful of greats and now India will too.

Forget all the controversies, Sourav was (or is until the end of the series) one of the most eye-pleasing batsman of his generation. He was the strongest "inflection point" of Indian Cricket after Sunil Gavaskar. Thanks for all the memories, Sourav - Good luck for the series and life beyond.
