Easy, tiger The eco-lodge Forsyth’s Satpura (01295 758150), which opens soon in Madhya Pradesh, will be the only place offering walking tours in search of Indian tigers. Two things to bear in mind: contrary to popular opinion, tigers are not normally partial to human flesh; and, should you happen to meet a maneater, you don’t have to outrun the tiger. Just your fellow guests.
Next stop, who knows? Imaginative Traveller (0845 077 8803, www.imaginative-traveller.com ) claims to be offering a unique holiday - provided you’ve never heard of the Beatles - the mystery tour. The 14-night adventure departs on June 20, 2009, and costs £2,099pp, with the destination a closely guarded secret. Clients are told only the name of the departure airport. “As the trip unfolds, the group will still be none the wiser as to what’s in store next,” the operator says. ” Unique? Hardly. Some no-frills airlines have been doing the same thing for years.
Extrasensory precipitation If you missed out on the first sky dives over Everest last week, fear not. The “extreme” adventure operator High and Wild (www.highandwild.co.uk ) plans further freefalls next May. Participants will pay £12,675 for the pleasure of leaping from 29,500ft over the Himalayas. The trip is pitched as “a feast for those who seek to stimulate all their senses to the point of near overload”. How enticing.
Macaroons and whisky. Oh la la For 10 years, demoiselles have swooned at the size of the chef’s macaroons at Ladurée (www.laduree.fr ), that oh-so-French institution on the Champs Elysées. To celebrate its anniversary, the world-famous tearoom has extended and opened the seriously sophisticated Ladurée Le Bar, where the late-night tipple tends to be whisky rather than a nice cuppa.
Spurious luxury of the week Guests need never go thirsty at Cap Maison (www.capmaison.com ), in St Lucia. Those sunbathing on the beach can now raise a flag and the barman will send a bottle of bubbly down a special champagne zip wire. Trouble is, unless you’re Lewis Hamilton, shaken magnums of fizz aren’t much use to you.
Follow that hump If you’re heading to Tunisia for your winter sun, you won’t want to look uncool on the obligatory camel ride - that’s why Cadogan (0845 615 6793) is offering all its guests a three-hour lesson in handling the beasts, which should leave you able to ride on your own. Sounds fine, until you read that the lesson also, rather ominously, includes “desert survival techniques”.
